Raspberry Shawl
Raspberry Shawl
Raspberry is a small, triangular shawl with lots of drape. I’ve designed it to be wider so that it wraps easily around the shoulders. My shawl uses two strands of Indigo Moon Fingering Weight in Raspberry. You may also use an aran weight yarn. For a larger, heavier shawl, use a chunky weight yarn and 8mm needles. The finished measurements are approximate. My shawl measures approximately 55 inches across and 23 inches at the centre (after blocking). You may end up with a smaller or larger shawl depending on your gauge and choice of yarn and needles. Enjoy!
Materials
1,200 meters of fingering weight yarn (used double) or
600 meters of aran weight yarn (used single)
7 mm needles (best to use 32″ or longer circulars)
1 stitch marker
Gauge(not crucial)
14 sts and 24 rows in stockinette stitch
Measurements
approximately 55″ x 23″ after blocking
Abbreviations
K = knit
P = purl
KFB = knit into front and back of next stitch
YO = yarn over needle to make 1 stitch
YF = yarn forward
YB = yarn back
K2TOG = knit two stitches together
MKR = stitch marker
PM = place marker
SLM = slip marker
MB = make bobble
Stitches Used
Garter Panel Pattern (14 rows):
Row 1: K3, YO, K to 1 st before MKR, YO, K1, SLM, K1, YO, K to last 3 sts, YO, K3
Row 2: K all stitches and YOs, SLM, K all stitches and YOs
Repeat rows 1 and 2 another 6 times. This panel increases knitting by 28 stitches.
Stockinette Panel Pattern(10 rows):
Row 1: K3, YO, K to 1 st before MKR, YO, K1, SLM, K1, YO, K to last 3 sts, YO, K3
Row 2: K3, YF, YO, P to 1 st before MKR, K1, SLM, K1, P to last 3 sts, YO, YB, K3
Repeat rows 1 and 2 another 4 times. This panel increases knitting by 30 stitches.
Bobble:
K5 into next stitch, turn, K5, turn, K5, slip first four stitches over fifth stitch
Notes
Please do not slip first stitch of every row.
Instructions
Set Up:
Cast on 5 stitches
Knit two rows
Next row: K1, KFB 3 times, K1
Next row: K2, KFB 4 times, K2
Next row: K6, PM, K6
You now have 12 stitches on the needle.
Work first Garter Panel. You now have 40 stitches.
Work first Stockinette Panel. You now have 70 stitches.
Work second Garter Panel. You now have 98 stitches.
Work second Stockinette Panel. You now have 128 stitches.
Work third Garter Panel. You now have 156 stitches.
Work third Stockinette Panel. You now have 186 stitches.
Work fourth Garter Panel. You now have 214 stitches.
Work fourth Stockinette Panel. You now have 244 stitches.
Work fifth Garter Panel. You now have have 272 stitches.
Next row (bottom border):
*MB, K5*, repeat * * to 4 sts before MKR, MB, K2, SL1, remove MKR, return slipped stitch back onto left needle, K2tog, return stitch back onto left needle, MB, K2, MB, **K5, MB** repeat ** ** to end.
Cast off, weave in yarn ends.

How does one work a YO AND YB with nothing inbetween?
YO to make one stitch, then YB in the same direction as the YO because the next stitch is a knit stitch.
On the stockenette panel on the left edge I only get one thread of yarn in the holes, and it should be two. I can’t figure out how to do the YF,YO and YO,YB
Hello!
You should only have one strand of yarn (the YO makes one stitch only). The YB or YF refers to getting the yarn into the correct position for the next stitch.

I think that what Alva means is when you look at the strand between the holes ( example: between rows 4 and 1)on the end of the shawl ,yo,yf or yb,yo there is only one strand between the rows as for in the middle yos there is two strands twisted together… I’m looking everywhere on the net and I don’t understand!!! Can’t really see on the picture how yours looks…

I have been trying to print your pattern of Raspberry Shawl now about twenty times and can not get it unfortunately. I so much like it and would love to knit it, print comes too big or half of the instructions missing. Please help.

Noticed a lot of people stating that they can’t see the picture, its very likely their browser that is the issue. the browser and software are the issue, the evidence of this is that they can’t see it on screen but can see it after it prints, the print program changes the format and most of its updates are automatic keeping the print program current while their other software has gone out of date. The shawl is lovely, I knit for charity and close family only, I think everyone is going to love this-thank you so much.
Is this a rectangular shaw or triangle?
In the photo it appears that there are more than one stitch between the middle YOs but that is not so in the directions. This is a big reason that I like the pattern. I would like to put more stitches between the middle YOs so that it comes out like the photograph. Should I just increase the number of initial stitches? Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you!

The directions are for two stitches between YO’s. You could easily add more stitches between the YO’s by casting on extra even number of stitches and adjusting set-up Row 3.
